President Bola Tinubu has approved six major construction and road development projects aimed at improving connectivity, supporting economic growth and strengthening transport infrastructure across Nigeria.

The approved projects include the construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of key highways and bridges linking major commercial centres, industrial hubs and regional corridors. Among the flagship developments is the completion of the Suleja–Minna dual carriageway, the reconstruction of the Abuja–Lokoja Road and the upgrading of the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Road.

A significant bridge development project was also approved in Lagos, where the existing Carter Bridge will be replaced with a newly designed structure following technical assessments that determined the current bridge can no longer be rehabilitated. Design and cost studies for the new bridge have already been commissioned.

Other approved projects include the redesign and reconstruction of the Kano–Kongolam Road as a modern three-lane concrete carriageway featuring solar-powered streetlights and CCTV systems, as well as the second phase of the Keffi–Nasarawa–Abaji Road rehabilitation project.

Together, these projects represent a substantial investment in Nigeria’s construction sector and transport network. The developments are expected to improve mobility, enhance road safety, support trade and create opportunities for contractors, suppliers and construction professionals across the country.

The federal government also announced plans to commission several major road projects across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones in the coming months, highlighting its continued focus on infrastructure delivery and national development.
